The Believer’s Strength & Courage – Josh. Chpt. 1
Strength and courage. We see Hollywood depictions of these two character traits all the time. From soldiers rushing into battle to the firefighter risking his own life to save someone else, we all know what strength and courage look like on the outside. But what about the inside? And what about the motivation behind it?
Strength & courage are character traits that have a moral component. They aren’t just emotional responses. A person demonstrates them because there is a compelling moral reason to do so. Sometimes that reason is one of coming to the aid of someone in need; other times the reason is no more complicated than doing the right thing because it’s the right thing to do. The book of Joshua rests on the idea of being strong and courageous. Now more than ever, we Christian believers need strength and courage. We need to stop living in fear – fear of corona, gov’t. persecution, etc. We need to stand in the face of God’s enemies and live for God with conviction.
