God: Nothing Has Changed – Joshua Chpt. 3
It is easy to quote Heb. 13:8 and Mal. 3:6 in the context of a Bible study or a prayer meeting. Both verses remind us of the unchanging nature of God, in all three persons. And yet, like so many other things related to our Christian faith, it’s a lot harder to actually stand firm in God’s unchanging nature in practical matters.
Joshua 3 describes the people of Israel crossing the Jordan river and entering the promised land. It is an event they had been hearing about – and anticipating – for literally their entire lives. When the day finally arrives, they face the prospect of doing something that defies conventional wisdom. But do it they must. Why? Because nothing has changed with God. God is still God; he still does things in ways that don’t match up with human thinking.
