A Curse on the Camp – Josh. Chpt. 7
So last week we briefly talked about how we Christians sometimes take the curses of the world on ourselves by doing what the world does. It was in the context of God telling Israel to not take anything from Jericho when the city fell. They were to take only the gold and silver vessels that were to be added to the LORD’s treasury. Everything else was to be destroyed. Why? Because God has cursed the entire city, all its inhabitants, and everything in it.
In chapter 7, we discover that Israel disobeyed. Not the whole nation (the text indicates just one man). Yet that one man’s disobedience caused trouble for the entire army. It also resulted in God refusing to go before Israel until they did something about it. As we study this, I want you to think about how often we, as the collective Church, have taken of the accursed thing. Consider how often you have done so personally. This is serious stuff to God. He does not take the accursed things that he so despises lightly.
