Today’s text will tell the story of Jesus recruiting the first four apostles: Peter, Andrew, James, and John. Though Luke’s abbreviated version doesn’t specifically mention it, other gospels (Matt. & Mk.) record Jesus inviting these men to follow him. Knowing that, would you agree that the LORD would have all of us follow Jesus? (He does, by the way – Rom. 8:29) And if so, do you know what that looks like?
If you believe that being a Christian makes you a follower of Jesus, you are sadly mistaken. There is no “followers club” into which all born again believers are inducted. Following Jesus is a choice backed up by action. This morning, we are going to see exactly what it looks like. By the time we finish, you should have a better understanding of not only what it means to follow Jesus, but how you can do it on a daily basis.
