New Is Not Better With God – Lk. 11:29-54
Would you agree that the human attention span is rather short? Would you agree that humanity, as a whole, is always looking for something new, something fresh? We don’t like the old so much. We don’t like the traditional. While that’s not necessarily bad when it comes to things like travel and dining, always looking for something new is a deadly trap in the faith realm.
Remember Paul speaking to the Epicureans and stoics in Athens? Scripture says in Acts 17:21 that “…the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.” They were constantly looking for something new and fresh. But they missed God completely. Why? Because his truth is not new. His judgment and love are not new. They are old. They are traditional. They are unchanging.
In today’s text, we are going to see the dangers of always looking for something new. We are going to see the dangers of setting our eyes on things that are not godly. Let’s learn from this and change the light our lives reflect.
