For the last two weeks we have been discussing the concept of the human heart being a treasure chest; the idea being that God would have us store good things in that chest. The Bible goes so far as to tell us that where are treasure is, our hearts will also be. That’s a sobering thought. I can gauge the state of my own heart just by stepping back and taking an honest look at what is most important to me at any given time.
With that in mind, we left off last week with Jesus warning his disciples to keep watch and be diligent. He knows some of them will slack off and drift away once he’s gone. He makes it clear that, when he returns to earth for his second go round, he wants to find his people ready for him. And yes, he will reward those who are ready. That’s where we pick up the text today.
