What Price Are You Willing to Pay? – Lk. 14:25-35
It has been said that anything worth having is worth fighting for. On a similar note, things that are worth having are also worth working for. When things are given to us, we don’t tend to appreciate them as much because they cost us nothing. But those things we work for are valuable. Believe it or not, discipleship works that way, too.
Being a disciple of Christ is not easy. In fact, it’s very difficult. It’s difficult by design. Jesus endured things we can’t even imagine in order to make restitution for our sins. His life on this earth was no cake walk. His persecution and crucifixion would have been unbearable to most men. If we are commanded by God to be conformed into the image of Jesus, why would we assume that being a disciple of Christ would be a picnic?
God will never force any of us to be disciples. But know this: anyone who chooses to be a disciple will have to pay the price. The question to ask yourself as we go through this text is this: what price are you willing to pay?
