Do you remember the 1980s TV show ‘Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous’? It was a weekly feature that showcased the homes and lives of wealthy celebrities, athletes, business magnates, etc. It was all about excess – almost to the point of being offensive. It was like 60 mins. of in-your-face opulence broadcast over the airwaves for everyone to see and be jealous of.
The show eventually died and people forgot about it. How ironic that all the people profiled in the show will eventually die and be forgotten. Some of them already have. Here’s the thing, their rich and famous lifestyles will die with them. You see, death is the ultimate equalizer.
Today’s text will cover the story of the rich man and Lazarus. We will talk about social status a bit, but we’ll mostly focus on the rich man’s fate. The story is mostly about him anyway. As we study, take notice of what can be learned about the torment of hell for those who reject Jesus. Hell is a real place, and many will find themselves there one day.
