Just Passing Through – Eccl. Chpt. 9
There is an old hymn that says, “This world is not my home, I’m just a-passing through. My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue.” Its main thrust is that of not getting too attached to this world because life here is not permanent. It is only temporary. The next life is eternal, right?
All of us are going to exist eternally. The question is where and with whom. The born-again believer leaves this life and graduates to an eternity spent with Jesus in the glorious new heaven and new earth, where Scripture says are laid up treasures we can’t even imagine. The person who isn’t born-again is destined to eternal suffering in the lake of fire, alongside Satan and his minions. That’s just the reality whether one chooses to believe it or not.
Knowing all of this, doesn’t it make sense to be more concerned about eternity than this life? If I live to be 85, that’s still nothing in light of eternity. My time on this earth will eventually come to an end. My time in the next life will NEVER come to an end. Likewise for you. All of us are just passing through this life on the way to the next. It’s the next life that matters.
