How many of us would be up in arms if our local pastors invited a drag queen in to do a presentation about how wonderful the gender fluidity perversion is. I trust all of us would be fit to be tied; that we would do everything we could to stop it. And if it couldn’t be stopped, we absolutely would not attend.
I offer this extreme example because it’s so easy to grasp. But even now, our churches are regularly teaching and promoting messages that are just as ungodly and unscriptural as gender fluidity. They are even more dangerous because they are subtle; they are disguised as truth. For example, even marginal Christians can see the evils of gender fluidity and take a stand against it. But they fail to see the evils of the ‘me’ gospel of the 21st century. And so they fall for it. It makes their faith ‘shipwreck’ as Paul would say.
Today’s text will deal with the unruly and vain talkers that were causing trouble in Crete. Paul says they need to be stopped. What we will learn today is easily applicable to our own time. Christianity is rife with unruly and vain talkers. They need to be stopped. Godly leaders need to rebuke them; the rest of us need to stop listening to them. They’ll stop talking if they have no audience.
