From time to time I’ll counsel someone from the old church up north. Usually, it’s nothing serious. It’s more an old friend looking for some advice or encouragement. Interestingly, I often find myself offering the same advice: just keep plugging along. Just keep moving forward in your faith – even if it’s just baby steps.

The world around us is trying as hard as it might to pull us back to it. The Jewish believers Peter was writing to were in the same boat. But they had the added pressure of persecution. It would have been easy for them to give up on Christianity because it was so hard. But Peter reminds them that they have plenty of reasons to not do so. They (and us, too) have plenty of good reasons to just keep plugging along.
