A Bitter Triumph – Lk. 19:28-48

Today is Palm Sunday. It’s the day we remember and commemorate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The event we are going to look at today takes place on a Sunday morning. Jesus likely spent Saturday night with his disciples; he likely stayed over at the house of his good friends Mary, Martha, and Lazarus.

As he rises Sunday morning and prepares to enter Jerusalem, he knows full well what’s coming. Passover is just three days away; the crucifixion four; the resurrection just seven days away. This is it. This is what he came to do; it is his purpose. And if Jesus is anything like the rest of us (in the flesh, anyway), his triumphal entry was bittersweet.
