The Cry of the Sinner King – Psalm 69
Today we look at Psalm 69, a psalm that is both literal and Messianic. It is literal in that David wrote it from his own personal experience. The exact event he refers to is unknown, but it was real nonetheless. Yet the psalm is also prophetic of Jesus in several places. It speaks of Jesus’ suffering; of his redemptive work on the cross.
In the literal sense, Psalm 69 is the cry of a great king who (like the rest of us) is just a sinner. In the Messianic sense, it tells the story of The King who suffered to pay for our sins. Given that David was Israel’s first king and Jesus is the promised eternal King, this psalm takes us full circle in its application.
